In-Situ Nondestructive Material Testing
A nondestructive testing method for evaluating physical properties of concrete including the compressive strength is highly desirable, particularly for condition assessment and remaining life prediction of existing concrete structures. There is no reliable nondestructive testing method and the current practice relies on destructive sample coring. Newport Sensors, Inc. has developed a material testing technology, along with a lightweight handheld device, for nondestructive in-situ evaluation of compressive strength and other physical properties of concrete. This technology takes advantage of the correlation between the dielectric properties and the physical material properties.
